Franklin Elementary School
For several years now, Wesley has been in partnership with Franklin Elementary in Muscatine. We provide weekly tutors to the school, put on special events, and help support school and family needs as they arise.
Wesley Day of Caring
Twice a year teams of the Wesley congregation help out around the community of Muscatine, anything from yard work to carpentry.
Wesley Back to School Carnival
Every August Wesley hosts a Back to School Carnival for kids in our community. The event is FREE with walking tacos, popcorn, and other good treats. The "prizes" are school supplies for the upcoming school year. Supplies are donated by members of the community.
Loaves and Fishes
Wesley prepares and serves meals several times a year for Loaves and Fishes, run out of MCSA to provide food to people in need.
Kids Holiday Shoppe
Every December, new or gently used items are donated by our congregation. Then parents bring their children to shop for gifts for their loved ones while parents enjoy refreshments in the Parents’ Lounge! Kids who have never been able to afford presents for their family have the opportunity to experience the gift of giving!
Each year Wesley supports 2-3 families in need during the Christmas season. Members of the congregation purchase and wrap needed items for the entire family to make it a Christmas to remember and pass on God's blessings.
Sunset Park Afterschool Program
The Sunset Park after-school program works to support the success of student residents of the Sunset Park housing complex here in Muscatine. Several times a year our Director of Music, as well as our Children's and Youth choirs, provide special events to this program.
Muscatine CROP Hunger Walk
Wesley walks in a CROP Hunger Walk each October. These walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and raise funds to end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.
Each Christmas we support Senior Resources by providing items at Christmas for seniors in need. Senior Resources is a non-profit organization located in Muscatine that is dedicated to helping senior citizens throughout Muscatine County.
Muscatine Community Food Pantry
Monthly we collect food for the Muscatine Community Food Pantry (located inside of MCSA) which then provides a food sack--including fresh fruits and vegetables and canned goods--delivered by volunteers to low-income people with special dietary needs and limited access to transportation.
Wesley UMC Scholarships
On the 5th Sunday of each month, a special offering is taken to support the Wesley Scholarship Fund. These scholarships are given each year to help support traditional and non-traditional students seeking higher education.
Music Beyond Mountains-Haiti
Muscatine Youth Choir continues an ongoing music program for the children of Grand-Bois, Haiti, as well as teacher training for Haitian teachers. Trips take place twice a year with the goals of introducing music to children in a remote area, providing leadership training to area teenagers who then help our group with the children’s program, and training teachers toward ultimately making music a staple in area classrooms.
Dr. Emmanuel Ufonna Mefor, a medical doctor, is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church currently assigned to Mutambara, Zimbabwe.
The Thanksgiving Ingathering is a way for Iowa United Methodists to address hunger problems locally and around the world.
